Race and racism are inseparable. The very institution of racism is contingent upon the socially constructed concept of race—a concept that is, in itself, racist. In this section we foreground discussions on racism in the UK and elsewhere to think through how the understandings of hierarchical difference forged in the colonial period continue to shape lives and outcomes.
